Muscle Strains & Spasms
Muscle strains and sprains are both considered musculoligamentous injuries. A strain (pulled muscle) is experienced when some or all of the affected muscle or tendon tissues are overstreched or torn. A sprain is experienced when ligaments are damaged or torn.
Muscle spasms occur as a result of muscle strains and sprains. Spasms may actually cause further damage to the muscle since it is believed continuous use of the muscle causes protien deposits to accumulate creating painful muscle knots (myofascial trigger points).
Thourough streching before vigorous activity and sound lifting techniques prevent muscle strains and sprains. Stretching, alternating hot and cold packs, massage and regular treatments with MendMeShop Ultrasound can significantly reduce pain and accelarate the healing process.
